Nine Arrested in UK Raids on Religious Group Over Serious Allegations
A major police operation unfolding in Cheshire has drawn global attention after hundreds of officers raided multiple properties linked to a religious organisation, following allegations of serious sexual offences, forced marriage and modern slavery.
Authorities in the United Kingdom confirmed that nine people have been arrested in connection with an investigation involving members of a group known as the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light. Police say the allegations relate to reported incidents dating back to 2023 and involve one woman who was a member of the organisation at the time. The group is based in Crewe and is estimated to have around 150 members at its main site.
More than 500 officers were deployed during coordinated raids across three addresses, including the group’s headquarters. Investigators also searched additional properties as part of what officials describe as a detailed and ongoing inquiry. Alongside the nine main arrests, another 13 individuals were detained on suspicion of public order offences, though police clarified these are not directly tied to the core investigation.
The suspects include men and women of multiple nationalities, including American, Mexican, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Egyptian and British citizens. Authorities say the operation also involved international cooperation, with support from Europol and law enforcement partners in other European countries.

Police have been careful to stress that the investigation is not targeting the religion itself, but rather focuses on specific criminal allegations. Senior officers stated clearly that safeguarding remains a priority and that support measures have been put in place for individuals affected by the raids. Local authorities are also working to ensure those displaced or impacted receive appropriate care and assistance.
The scale of the operation has raised concern in the local community, with road closures, a visible police presence and emergency response teams deployed in the area throughout the day. Officials, however, have reassured residents that there is no wider threat to public safety.
The group involved has previously faced scrutiny in different countries, though it describes itself as a peaceful religious movement rooted in Shia Islam. Mainstream Islamic organisations have distanced themselves from it.
As the investigation continues, police say they are working to gather evidence and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward. The case is expected to remain under close scrutiny as authorities examine the full extent of the allegations and potential wider implications.
