Walmart’s Drone Delivery Plan Could Change Shopping Forever
A major shift in how you receive everyday items could be taking shape right now, as Walmart pushes forward with plans to bring drone delivery straight to neighborhoods in Florida.
The retail giant has submitted a proposal to launch a drone delivery operation in Seminole County, near Orlando. Local officials are now reviewing the plan, which includes building a dedicated drone hub at one of its stores. This facility would house, charge and manage a fleet of small delivery drones designed to handle what the industry calls “last-mile delivery” — the final step from store to your doorstep.
Here’s how it would work. These drones, weighing around 11 pounds, would carry lightweight packages, typically under 2 pounds. Think groceries, small household essentials, or even over-the-counter medicines. Once an order is placed, the drone could be in the air within minutes, flying at speeds up to 60 miles per hour and reaching your home in about 30 minutes. It would then lower the package safely to your doorstep from roughly 150 feet above the ground.

And this isn’t just a local experiment. Walmart has already demonstrated this technology in cities like Miami, as part of a broader expansion plan across the United States.
