Marvel Rivals Drops Giant Twist as Devil Dinosaur Charges Into Season 8
Marvel Rivals is about to get a lot bigger and fans are reacting to one of the wildest character additions the game has seen so far. NetEase Games has officially revealed that Devil Dinosaur is storming into Season 8 before Cyclops and the update is bringing major gameplay changes that could completely shake up the competitive scene.
What makes this reveal so interesting is that Devil Dinosaur is not one of Marvel’s mainstream heroes. This is a giant red Tyrannosaurus Rex pulled straight from Marvel Comics lore, usually connected to Moon Girl and the strange multiverse stories surrounding Dinosaur World. But now, this massive creature is becoming a frontline Vanguard fighter inside Marvel Rivals and players are already trying to figure out how chaotic matches could become once the update goes live.
According to the early details, Devil Dinosaur is designed to dominate close-range combat. He can bite enemies, apply bleeding effects, lock targets in place and even transform into a larger charging beast during his ultimate attack. That alone signals a major shift toward more aggressive tank gameplay. And then there is the new team-up mechanic with The Punisher, where Punisher can literally ride on Devil Dinosaur’s back while sharing damage and support effects. It sounds over-the-top, but that is exactly the kind of comic-book energy Marvel Rivals has been leaning into since launch.

At the same time, Cyclops is waiting in the wings for the Season 8.5 update and many players believe his arrival could become one of the game’s biggest moments yet. The storyline itself is also expanding deeper into Marvel’s darker sci-fi themes, with Alchemax, Chronovium energy and the Time Plague all becoming central parts of the narrative. So this is not just another cosmetic update. NetEase is clearly trying to build an evolving live-service universe around the game.
But beyond the new characters, competitive players are paying very close attention to the balance changes. Several heroes are getting buffs, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and Moon Knight. Others are taking serious nerfs, especially crowd-control heavy characters like Invisible Woman and parts of Mister Fantastic’s kit. That could completely change team compositions in ranked play and esports tournaments over the next few weeks.
There is also a practical change many PC players will appreciate. The high-resolution texture pack is becoming optional DLC, which could free up around 35 gigabytes of storage space. For gamers struggling with massive install sizes, that is a very significant move.
So while Devil Dinosaur may sound like a surprising addition at first, this update is really about something bigger. Marvel Rivals is trying to prove it can keep evolving with bold ideas, deep Marvel lore and constant gameplay shifts that keep players invested month after month.
