Mitch Robinson Hospitalized After Scary Neck Injury in Local Footy Match
A frightening moment on a local football ground has sent shockwaves through the Australian sporting community, after former AFL star Mitch Robinson was rushed to hospital following a serious neck scare during a grassroots match in Melbourne.
The 36-year-old, best known for his tough and fearless playing style across nearly 250 AFL games with Carlton and Brisbane, was playing for Hampton Park when the incident occurred on Saturday. What began as a routine tackle quickly turned into a medical emergency, after Robinson hit the ground and immediately felt intense pain through his neck and spine.
Witnesses and teammates described a tense and unsettling scene as Robinson lay motionless, reporting he could not move his neck and was experiencing tingling sensations in his legs. Medical staff on the field acted quickly, instructing him not to move while an ambulance was called.
He was placed in a neck brace, given pain relief and stretchered off the field as concern grew over the severity of the injury. The match continued, but attention was firmly fixed on the former AFL cult hero as he was transported to Dandenong Hospital for urgent assessment.

Later, Robinson revealed he underwent two CT scans and spent around 12 hours under medical supervision. Thankfully, doctors ruled out any major structural damage. He was discharged early Sunday morning but is set to undergo further MRI scans in Brisbane to fully assess his recovery.
In his own words, Robinson described it as one of the most terrifying experiences of his life, saying he initially feared it could be the last time he ever played competitive football. He also admitted the incident gave him a harsh reminder of how quickly things can change in sport, even during moments that seem routine.
Despite the scare, he expressed gratitude toward medical staff, family and teammates who supported him through the ordeal, though he was visibly disappointed to have left his side undermanned during a crucial match.
This incident highlights the ongoing risks in contact sports, even at local level, where experienced athletes are not immune to sudden and serious injury.
As Robinson continues his recovery journey, attention now turns to his long-term health and whether he will return to the field again, while fans and the wider sporting world await further updates.
