
Belfast Brutal Stabbing Has Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer Reacting
The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, has spoken out following a brutal stabbing in north Belfast, calling the attack sickening and stating he has absolutely no tolerance for such violence on our streets. This incident, which occurred around ten thirty PM on Monday evening on Kinnaird Avenue, has sent shockwaves through the community. A man in his thirties, believed by police to be of Somalian origin, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
The victim, a man in his forties, sustained significant injuries to his face, neck and back. Video footage circulating online shows bystanders, some armed with objects including a hurling stick, confronting the apparent attacker until police arrived. Northern Ireland Justice Minister Naomi Long praised these brave individuals for disarming the assailant and urged the public not to share the graphic images, describing them as deeply disturbing.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a nine nine nine call shortly after the incident and dispatched an ambulance and an advanced paramedic. Following initial treatment at the scene, the victim was transported to Royal Victoria Hospital. Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson stated an investigation is underway to establish the motive behind this critical incident, assuring the community that it is being treated with the utmost seriousness.
Political leaders across the spectrum have condemned the attack. Sinn Fein MP John Finucane called it appalling, while Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly described it as a shocking and brutal act of violence with no place in society. Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, Gavin Robinson, described the scenes as barbaric and stressed the importance of the police providing clear, factual information to prevent disinformation.
Ulster Unionist Party leader Jon Burrows expressed concern about potential exploitation of the incident, emphasizing the need for swift and objective police communication. Traditional Unionist Voice deputy leader Ron McDowell called the social media footage one of the most horrific he has ever witnessed. Assembly member Nuala McAllister appealed for calm and urged the public to allow the police to conduct their investigation without interference.
Independent councillor Paul McCusker noted that some residents were so traumatized by witnessing the brutal attack that they required hospital treatment themselves. He praised the brave residents who intervened and stressed the importance of community support for the police investigation. The Police Service of Northern Ireland is appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.
