Exciting news for Eurovision fans around the globe: Basel, Switzerland, has been officially selected as the host city for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest! This announcement, made by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), marks a significant milestone for the iconic music event, bringing it to the German-speaking part of Switzerland for the very first time.

The decision to choose Basel came after Switzerland’s own Nemo Mettler won the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest with his hit song “The Code.” This victory granted Switzerland the honor of hosting the next edition of the contest, and after a thorough and competitive selection process, Basel emerged as the top choice.

Basel, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant arts scene, will welcome the Eurovision Song Contest to its renowned St. Jakobshalle venue. The grand event is set to unfold with the first semi-final scheduled for May 13, 2025, followed by the second semi-final on May 15. The much-anticipated grand final will take place on May 17, 2025. In addition, there will be six dress rehearsals throughout that week, ensuring a flawless show for the grand finale.

This will be the first time that the Eurovision Song Contest is hosted in the German-speaking region of Switzerland, adding a fresh dimension to the contest’s storied history. Previous Swiss host cities have included Lugano in 1956 and Lausanne in 1989. Basel was selected over other competitive cities such as Bern, Geneva, and Zurich, thanks to its excellent facilities, local infrastructure, and ability to accommodate the massive influx of international delegations, crew, and fans.

The selection of Basel marks the sixth consecutive time that Eurovision will be held outside a capital city, reflecting the contest’s commitment to showcasing a variety of locales across Europe.
