Nick Foles Opens Up About Carson Wentz’s Eagles Era and Future with the Chiefs
In a recent interview, Nick Foles took a deep dive into his relationship with Carson Wentz, shedding light on their complex past and offering a glimpse into what lies ahead for Wentz with the Kansas City Chiefs. It's been a while since these two quarterbacks were part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ historic Super Bowl run, but their connection remains significant in the NFL narrative.
Foles, who famously stepped in for Wentz after the latter suffered a season-ending ACL tear in 2017, has always maintained a respectful tone when discussing his former teammate. On the "The Green Light" podcast with Chris Long, Foles shared his perspective on their relationship, clarifying that there was no underlying tension between them despite the dramatic circumstances. "I wouldn't say there was tension between us," Foles remarked. "We always got along in a respectful manner."

Foles' entry into the spotlight came when he took over as the starting quarterback and led the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots. While Foles enjoyed a triumphant end to that season, he acknowledged that it must have been difficult for Wentz. "Man, that's not easy for him," Foles said, referring to Wentz's injury and the subsequent success of the team. "He wants to be out there playing, he's a competitor. So there's definitely emotions that go into that."
Despite the competitive nature of the sport, Foles emphasized that their relationship remained intact. Even now, years after their shared glory, Foles continues to support Wentz. "I cheer him on," Foles revealed. He recently sent Wentz some "Dad Szn" hats for his new team, the Kansas City Chiefs, and shared that Wentz responded with a picture of himself wearing the hat, sipping coffee, and reading the Bible. This gesture underscored the ongoing camaraderie between the two.
Foles, who retired this offseason, expressed his enthusiasm for Wentz's new role as Patrick Mahomes' backup in Kansas City. “I love that Carson is in Kansas City,” Foles said. “I think that's a great fit. Pat Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL, but if Carson needs to play, Carson will help them succeed.” Foles' confidence in Wentz’s ability to contribute to the Chiefs reflects his continued belief in his former teammate’s skills.
The story of Foles and Wentz is one of intertwined destinies and mutual respect, despite the drama that often surrounds such high-stakes narratives. Their shared history with the Eagles remains a significant chapter in NFL lore, and Foles' recent comments reaffirm that there is no lingering animosity between them. As both players continue their journeys in the league, their story serves as a reminder of the bonds forged in the heat of competition and the respect that can endure beyond the spotlight.
