Bidding Farewell to My Yamaha YZF-R15M: A Journey of Passion and Growth

Saying goodbye is always tough, especially when it’s to something that has been a crucial part of your life’s journey. Today, I’m sharing my heartfelt farewell to my beloved Yamaha YZF-R15M. This bike didn’t just serve as my means of transportation; it’s the machine that made me a motorcyclist. It took me on memorable rides, gave me my first taste of a race track, and eventually made me a part of the passionate Team-BHP community. But, as is often the case with passions, things evolve, and now the time has come to say goodbye to make room for my dream bike.

The Yamaha YZF-R15M was my first motorcycle, and the bond I formed with it over the years is hard to put into words. I had always envisioned keeping it for life. However, the desire to upgrade to something in the 300-400cc segment, with about 40 bhp, became too strong to ignore. I’ve come to realize that this range is perfect—not too powerful to be impractical for daily use, but robust enough for touring and the occasional thrill on the race track. As much as I love the R15M, I know deep down that once my dream bike arrives, the R15M will be used less and less, gathering dust and draining its battery. That’s something I cannot bear.

The reality is, we don’t have the space to keep it at home, either. Between a CB350 and another R15 V4 already sharing the limited parking in our apartment, my R15M would likely end up at my grandparents' place, visited only occasionally. Emotionally and financially, that just didn’t make sense. I’ve always believed that bikes, like friendships, deserve to be cherished fully—and my R15M deserves more than being neglected in a corner.

I was supposed to take one last trip to Yercaud with my R15M this weekend, but rain put a stop to that plan. Instead, I took this opportunity to visit showrooms and seal the deal on my next dream—Yamaha’s YZF-R3. Why the R3? Well, the reasons are many, but the simplest way to put it is this: “Something you love can never be fully explained.” The R3, with its perfect balance of power and usability, feels like the next step in my riding journey. If all goes well, I’ll have it delivered by Deepawali, and that will mark a new chapter.

This isn’t just about moving on from one bike to another. The Yamaha YZF-R15M will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s the motorcycle that helped me become who I am today. To all the R15 owners out there—cherish every moment with your bikes. Trust me, when the time comes to upgrade, you’ll carry those experiences with you.

So, here’s to my dear R15M. After 23,100 km and two years of incredible memories, it’s time to let go. I have a few more commutes before I officially hand it over to the dealer, and I’ll savor every last ride. Thank you for being a part of my journey, and I look forward to seeing you all in the R3 thread soon. Ride safe, everyone!
