Jaguars Triumph Over Patriots in London, Securing Crucial 32-16 Victory
The Jacksonville Jaguars secured a much-needed win over the New England Patriots in Week 7, with a decisive 32-16 victory at London’s Wembley Stadium. While it may not ignite immediate Super Bowl talks, this victory gave the Jaguars a much-needed boost, especially considering their rocky start to the season.
Tank Bigsby has been nothing short of a revelation for Jacksonville’s rushing game. Over the past month, he has dominated with 333 rushing yards, four touchdowns, and an impressive 6.2 yards per carry. In this game, his performance once again raised questions about how much of the backfield he should take over, even with Travis Etienne set to return from injury. Etienne’s role as a pass-catching back is secure, but Bigsby is now making a strong case to become the primary workhorse in the Jaguars' offense.

On the quarterback front, Trevor Lawrence continues to show signs of bouncing back from his early-season struggles. After a rough first few weeks, Lawrence looked more like his usual self, missing only a few key throws and showing better poise under pressure. His consistency has been improving, and while the Jaguars didn’t need to rely on him as much in the second half, his performance continued an upward trend that the team will need for the rest of the season.
Defensively, Jacksonville had a mixed day. They benefitted from the return of Tyson Campbell, whose presence helped tighten things up in the secondary. However, rookie quarterback Drake Maye still found ways to exploit gaps, particularly during the opening and closing quarters of the game. The Jaguars’ defense, though competent in the middle quarters, needs to clean up penalties and dropped interceptions if they want to compete against tougher offenses down the line.
Coach Doug Pederson’s job, which seemed to be under scrutiny coming into this game, has a bit more breathing room after this victory. With Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan visibly unhappy during the early 10-0 deficit, there were concerns about Pederson's future if the team didn’t turn things around. However, Jacksonville responded with 25 unanswered points, easing some pressure on Pederson and his staff. Still, a challenging schedule looms ahead, and it’s clear that the Jaguars will need more wins to ensure job security heading into 2025.
On the offensive front, rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. continues to impress. He had another standout game with five receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown, including a spectacular 58-yard catch over New England’s star cornerback Christian Gonzalez. Thomas is on track for an outstanding season, with four touchdowns so far and over 1,200 receiving yards projected. He’s a strong contender for Offensive Rookie of the Year, which would make him the first Jaguars player to win the award.
While the Patriots are now 1-6, and the Jaguars’ win won’t spark massive celebrations, it was a vital moment in Jacksonville’s season. The victory showcased key players stepping up when needed, but also highlighted areas that still need improvement. As the team faces a grueling schedule ahead, this performance in London might be the turning point that helps them salvage their season.
