Toyota Issues Major Recall of Nearly 70,000 Vehicles Over Instrument Cluster Fault
Hey everyone, just a quick but important update for Toyota owners out there—especially if you drive a RAV4 Hybrid or one of several other popular models. Toyota Australia has officially issued a massive recall affecting almost 70,000 vehicles. This includes models like the RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Cross, Camry, CH-R, GR Yaris, GR Corolla, and Kluger—pretty much some of Toyota’s biggest names on the road.
Now, what’s going on? The issue lies in the digital instrument cluster—the 12.3-inch display behind the steering wheel that gives you your speed, warning lights, messages, and other key driving data. In some vehicles produced between July 2022 and April 2025, there’s a risk that this entire display might go completely blank when the vehicle starts—and stay that way.

Why is this happening? According to Toyota, it comes down to a programming flaw in the combination meter. Essentially, the software writes data to a memory chip more frequently than it should, wearing it out faster than expected. And when that happens, the screen might not light up at all. You could be driving without a visible speedometer, warning indicators, or any essential alerts. That’s a serious safety concern in the wrong conditions.
Toyota has clarified that affected vehicles are still safe to drive for now, but they are urging owners to get the issue fixed as soon as possible. They’ll be reaching out directly to all impacted vehicle owners, and the fix is free—just a software update that’ll take between one to two and a half hours at a dealership. Though, depending on the service schedule, your car might need to stay there a bit longer.
If you’re unsure whether your vehicle is included, check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) against the official list Toyota has published. Or just call your local dealer or the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline at 1800 987 366.
So, if you’re driving a Toyota made between mid-2022 and early 2025—especially the RAV4 Hybrid or Corolla variants—take this recall seriously. It’s not just a tech glitch; it’s a potential safety risk. Better to get it sorted now and avoid any surprises down the road. Stay safe out there.
