Community Rallies with £30,000 Raised for NI Man in Coma in Australia
The story of Conor Molloy, a young man from Gilford, Northern Ireland, has captured hearts across his hometown and beyond. Conor, who moved to Australia to work as an electrician, is currently in a critical condition, fighting for his life in a Sydney hospital. He fell into a coma, and the news has sent waves of concern and support through his community. In response, a fundraiser was launched, which has already raised nearly £30,000 to support his family with the heavy expenses they face.
Conor’s family—his parents and brother—immediately flew to Australia to be by his side. Being so far from home, they’re now confronted not only with the emotional strain of seeing their loved one in critical condition but also with mounting financial burdens, including accommodation and medical expenses. In light of this, Conor's friends from the Gilford Amateur Boxing Club took it upon themselves to initiate a GoFundMe page, reaching out to the community to help ease this financial load.

The response has been overwhelming. Within 24 hours of the page going live, nearly £28,365 was raised as word spread across Northern Ireland. The support from people across Gilford and surrounding areas reflects the strength of their community bond. DUP MP Carla Lockhart added her voice to the campaign, urging constituents to rally behind Conor and his family. “Every donation—no matter the amount—will help ease the financial strain on his loved ones, allowing them to focus on supporting Conor in his fight to recover,” she shared on social media, further encouraging locals to contribute in any way they could.
Sports clubs in the area have also stepped up, expressing their support and encouraging people to donate and keep Conor in their prayers. The Gilford Crusaders Football Club, where Conor once played, shared heartfelt messages, asking their followers to remember Conor and his family. Another club, Tullylish GAC, also sent out a similar appeal, emphasizing the power of community prayers and support in these difficult times.
Beyond these messages of solidarity, the outpouring of financial aid is a powerful testament to the impact Conor has had on his community. Through contributions large and small, people are ensuring that his family has one less worry on their shoulders as they navigate the uncertainty surrounding his health.
The online fundraiser has become a central gathering point for those who know Conor and those who have been touched by his story. Every message and donation reflects the collective hope for Conor’s recovery and shows his family they are not alone in this ordeal. Community members continue to share the fundraiser link and messages of support on social media, reinforcing their commitment to helping Conor’s family during this immensely challenging time.
Conor’s story serves as a reminder of how powerful community solidarity can be.
