Carl Frampton Nearly Reunited with Barry McGuigan on "I'm A Celebrity" – A Jungle Twist to Their Feud
Carl Frampton, the former two-weight world champion from Belfast, has recently shared an interesting revelation about his potential appearance on this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! The boxer, who has had a famously rocky relationship with his former manager Barry McGuigan, was reportedly close to joining the ITV reality show alongside McGuigan, who is rumored to be one of the stars this season. This news has captured the attention of fans, especially considering the dramatic history between the two figures in the world of boxing.

Frampton, often called The Jackal , confirmed during an interview on the Boxing Social podcast that he was almost brought into the jungle at the last minute after Tommy Fury, a previous contestant, withdrew from the lineup. According to Frampton, there was a brief period when he and another celebrity were in the running for the vacant spot. He revealed, “I swear to God, I was nearly in it last week.” Initially, he was one of three potential replacements, but the spot ultimately went to McFly’s Danny Jones. Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Frampton added, "By the way, I would have loved to have been in with him, I would have absolutely loved it, but it wasn’t to be."
The prospect of these two former boxing partners sharing a space in the reality show would have been a compelling moment for fans. Their relationship, which began in 2009 when McGuigan became Frampton’s manager, soured dramatically in 2017. After eight years together, Frampton left McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions to join MTK Global, leading to a highly publicized and bitter legal dispute. Frampton accused McGuigan of withholding earnings from his bouts, while McGuigan filed a countersuit, claiming Frampton had breached his contract when he left. The dispute was finally settled confidentially in 2020, but the tension remained palpable, with McGuigan publicly expressing his disappointment over the fallout. He has previously stated, "I didn’t take a penny off him for over two years until he won the Commonwealth title," and lamented that Frampton could not have achieved his success without his guidance.
Frampton’s nearly joining the I’m A Celebrity cast alongside McGuigan would have provided a fascinating backdrop for their long-standing feud. While it didn't materialize this year, Frampton seems open to the possibility of future reunions. "Maybe next year," he teased, leaving room for the dramatic reunion that never quite happened this time around.
As I'm A Celebrity continues to stir up excitement with its unpredictable cast and dramatic challenges, Frampton’s near participation brings a unique twist to the narrative. Fans of the former champions will surely be keeping an eye on the reality show this season, not just for the trials and tribulations in the jungle but for the intriguing dynamic that could have unfolded between Frampton and McGuigan if fate had played a different hand.
