Falcons Edge Raiders in Lackluster Matchup, Fans Disappointed by Quarterback Play

The Monday Night Football game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Las Vegas Raiders may have been one of the most underwhelming matchups of the season. As fans tuned in for the rare double-billed MNF slate, they were treated to a game defined not by stellar quarterback play, but by two teams struggling to make any significant offensive impact. The Atlanta Falcons managed a narrow 15-9 win over the Raiders, but the game left much to be desired for NFL fans hoping for some exciting prime-time action.

Kirk Cousins, the quarterback for the Falcons, had a mixed performance that only further highlighted his struggles. While he did manage to throw his first passing touchdown since Week 9, his overall performance was far from impressive. Cousins finished with 11 completions out of 17 attempts for just 112 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Despite the win, his inability to lead the offense with consistency or capitalize on good field position was a glaring issue. The Falcons failed to convert several prime opportunities into touchdowns, settling for field goals instead. Even standout running back Bijan Robinson, who rushed for 125 yards, couldn't carry the offense to a more convincing victory. The team's inability to establish a rhythm in the passing game was a significant setback.

On the other side of the field, Desmond Ridder, the Raiders’ quarterback, was equally disappointing. Ridder, starting in place of injured quarterbacks, was tasked with leading Las Vegas to victory in what could have been a redemption game for him. However, his performance fell short of expectations. Despite throwing for 208 yards and a touchdown, Ridder also threw two interceptions and took three sacks. The Raiders, who were in a position to pull off the upset, couldn't find any sustained offensive momentum, particularly with Ridder unable to execute downfield plays.

Ridder’s performance, although showing some spark in the fourth quarter, wasn’t enough to turn the tide. A late touchdown drive put pressure on the Falcons, but Ridder's Hail Mary attempt in the dying seconds of the game was intercepted, sealing Las Vegas' fate. As a result, the Raiders dropped to a dismal 2-11 record, continuing their disappointing season, while the Falcons improved to 7-7, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.

Despite the Falcons’ victory, fans were less than impressed with both quarterbacks' performances. Many criticized the lack of offensive firepower, noting that neither Cousins nor Ridder seemed capable of elevating their teams in the critical moments. The win did little to instill confidence in Atlanta’s chances of making a playoff push, especially with their next matchup against the division-leading Buccaneers looming. For Las Vegas, the loss is yet another step toward a potential top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, as they continue to search for answers at quarterback and beyond.

In the end, the Falcons’ victory was more about survival than dominance. With both teams struggling to find any rhythm offensively, Monday night’s game will likely be remembered as a forgettable chapter in what has been a disappointing season for both franchises.
