Jack White Celebrates Meg White's 50th Birthday with Heartfelt Tribute

Jack White has shared a touching tribute to his former bandmate and ex-wife, Meg White, to mark her 50th birthday. The iconic guitarist and vocalist of The White Stripes took to Instagram on December 10th to wish Meg a happy birthday. He posted a Polaroid photograph of her with a heartfelt caption that read, "HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY to my big sister, the great Meg White. There’s only one of you Meggo, they broke the mold. You’re still inspiring people, including me. Love you so much. -Jack III." This post is just the latest example of the enduring bond between the two, despite their long and complex history.

Jack and Meg White's journey together began in the 1990s in Detroit, where they first met at the Memphis Smoke restaurant. At the time, Jack was performing poetry at open mic nights, and Meg worked there. Their friendship grew as they spent time together at gigs and coffee shops, eventually blossoming into romance. They married in 1996, and shortly after, Meg began playing drums with Jack, which eventually led to the formation of The White Stripes in 1997. Their early days as a duo were marked by their unique style, which included using the colors red, black, and white, and publicizing a fictional story that they were siblings. This iconic image would later become synonymous with the band.

The White Stripes released their self-titled debut album in 1999, and their music quickly began to resonate with fans around the world. Though their relationship faced challenges, including a divorce in 2000, the two continued to make music together, producing influential albums like De Stijl (2000), White Blood Cells (2001), and Elephant (2003). Their success was cemented with the iconic song “Seven Nation Army,” which became a global anthem.

Despite the band calling it quits in 2011, Jack White and Meg White have remained respectful of each other’s contributions to the music world. Jack has continued to release solo material, while Meg has largely stayed out of the public eye since the band's breakup. In recent years, however, they have occasionally reunited for significant causes, such as taking legal action against Donald Trump after he used "Seven Nation Army" in his campaign without permission.

Meg’s understated style behind the drums played a key role in defining The White Stripes’ sound, and Jack has always spoken highly of her musical abilities. In a 2014 interview, he mentioned how Meg’s quiet nature sometimes created tension, but he also praised her for providing a vital counterbalance to his more flamboyant musical persona.

This latest birthday tribute is a reminder of the deep respect Jack has for Meg, and how their creative partnership continues to inspire people to this day. The White Stripes may no longer be active, but their influence and the bond between Jack and Meg White remain as strong as ever.
