Linda Cardellini Joins Jason Bateman and David Harbour in HBO’s New Dark Comedy Series
Linda Cardellini is set to join an exciting new project alongside Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the HBO limited series DTF St. Louis . The dark comedy has been getting attention ever since HBO confirmed the seven-episode order for the show in November. Initially announced in 2022, it was meant to be based on James Lasdun’s New Yorker article, My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation . However, over time, the creative direction of the series evolved, and it has since moved away from the article’s plot, taking on a completely original storyline.
Now, DTF St. Louis focuses on a complex love triangle between three middle-aged adults, caught in the throes of a crisis of self-worth and desire, which ultimately leads to murder. Cardellini will portray the character of Carol, marking yet another notable role for the talented actress. Known for her sharp wit and strong presence, Cardellini has been a standout in both dramatic and comedic roles. She has previously earned Emmy nominations for her performances in Mad Men and Dead to Me , the latter of which showcased her incredible range.

In addition to her work on Dead to Me , Cardellini is well-loved for her roles in Freaks and Geeks , ER , and Bloodline . Fans of her voicework will recognize her from the DC animated series Creature Commandos , and she has also been seen in films such as Brokeback Mountain and The Founder . Her most recent work includes the Netflix dark comedy No Good Deed , where she reunites with Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman.
The show, set in St. Louis, is helmed by Steven Conrad, who serves as the writer, showrunner, executive producer, and director. Bateman and Harbour will both executive produce the series, with Bateman doing so under his Aggregate Films banner. The talented team behind the show also includes producers from Escape Artists and Bravo Axolotl, as well as MGM Television, ensuring a high level of creative input.
With the inclusion of Cardellini in the lead role, DTF St. Louis is poised to be an engaging and darkly humorous show that will leave audiences intrigued by its twists and turns. As Cardellini continues to shine in this new role, fans can expect a riveting exploration of complicated relationships and unexpected outcomes, set against the backdrop of middle-aged malaise and mystery.
