Major Delays on M62 After Crash Near Bradford
Drivers traveling along the M62 near Bradford today are facing significant delays after a crash that occurred earlier this afternoon. The incident, which was first reported around 2 pm, involved a collision on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 25 (Brighouse) and 26 (Chain Bar, M606). As a result, three lanes were closed to allow emergency services to respond and clear the scene. Although lane one remained open, traffic quickly began to build up, causing a major disruption.
By 3:30 pm, the crash site was cleared, and the affected lanes were reopened. However, the impact of the crash was still being felt across the area as traffic congestion remained high. According to National Highways cameras, a large queue of vehicles was visible at junction 24 (Huddersfield), and average speeds dropped to just eight miles per hour at that location. At junction 25 (Brighouse), the average speed was slightly better at 16 miles per hour, but delays continued to affect many commuters.

The congestion didn’t stop at the motorway itself. The surrounding roads, including the A643, Elland Road (A6025), and Huddersfield Road (A641), were also heavily impacted by the backup, with drivers experiencing further delays as they sought alternative routes. The AA traffic alert map showed red zones of traffic in these areas, with local drivers struggling to find faster paths.
While the lanes were cleared relatively quickly, it’s important to note that traffic is still moving much slower than usual, and it will likely take some time for the congestion to clear completely. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes if possible.
This incident serves as a reminder of how quickly accidents can cause major delays on busy motorways like the M62, especially when multiple lanes are involved. With the M62 being one of the most important transport links in the region, any disruption can have a ripple effect, affecting not just those directly involved in the incident, but also a wide range of commuters and businesses relying on the motorway for their travel needs. It’s always crucial to stay informed about traffic conditions and to plan ahead for potential delays.
