Mysterious Drone Sightings in New Jersey Spark Growing Concerns
The skies over New Jersey have been recently filled with an unusual sight: mysterious drones. More than 50 drones were spotted offshore, coming from the ocean and flying over various parts of the state, including a shocking incident where at least a dozen drones trailed a U.S. Coast Guard vessel on Sunday night. The drones appeared to have a pattern, with law enforcement tracking them as they approached land, landing at Island Beach State Park. These strange and unaccounted-for drone activities have raised alarm bells among local authorities and federal officials alike.
Representative Chris Smith, during a recent congressional hearing, revealed his own firsthand experiences with the drones. On Monday, he visited Island Beach State Park along with Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy after reports surfaced about drones coming ashore. He further disclosed that a Coast Guard official had informed him that one of their 47-foot ships had been followed by a swarm of 12 to 30 drones. Smith emphasized the growing concern, calling it a serious threat and questioning why military authorities lacked the authorization to take action against these unidentified drones. His plea to allow the military to intercept and potentially neutralize the drones highlighted the growing sense of urgency.

The mystery deepened as the FBI’s Assistant Director, Robert Wheeler, admitted that authorities still do not know who is behind these aerial intruders. The drones have varied in size, with some larger than the typical commercial models, and they appear to be a mix of rotary and fixed-wing craft. The lack of a clear explanation has left many on edge, especially as these drones have been seen hovering over critical infrastructure like reservoirs, military installations, and even near the golf course of President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster estate.
As the sightings have continued throughout various counties such as Monmouth, Ocean, Bergen, and Sussex, calls for action have grown louder. New Jersey’s state officials, including Senator Jon Bramnick, have pushed for a limited state of emergency to ban drone flights until the public receives an explanation. They argue that these repeated sightings present a security risk, especially with drones being observed so close to military and governmental sites.
Despite numerous investigations, officials from military bases like Picatinny Arsenal have confirmed that the drones are not related to any of their activities. In fact, the FBI has been collecting leads, but the source and purpose of the drones remain unclear. Authorities continue to ask the public for information to help solve this mystery, but they are facing challenges due to limited laws that can address such incidents.
The situation has escalated, leading some officials to suggest that these mysterious drones could pose a real threat to national security. The fact that they are flying over sensitive areas, and the mystery surrounding their origins, only adds to the concern. As the investigation continues, New Jersey residents and government officials are anxiously awaiting answers.
