André Jardine's Absence From America's Match Against Querétaro in Clausura 2025

André Jardine, the manager who led the team to the three consecutive crowns, did not make the trip to Querétaro for their opening match of the new season. Just under a month ago, America triumphed over Rayados to claim their third consecutive title during the Apertura 2024 final. After such an intense and demanding campaign, the club granted its players some much-needed rest, as they entered the offseason. However, even with the holidays and a still ongoing preseason, the club made the decision to rotate players in preparation for the new season. This decision, while mainly affecting the playing squad, also impacted the coaching staff.

Jardine, who has been an essential figure in the club's recent success, chose not to travel with the team to Querétaro. Instead, he accompanied the main roster to San Diego for a more intensive preseason training session. This allowed the under-23 players to continue their development with another coach at the helm for the time being. Raúl Rodrigo Lara stepped in as the interim manager for the match against Querétaro, taking over for Jardine on the bench.
It is expected that this arrangement could continue at least until matchday 3 of the tournament, after which the team’s full preseason training will be completed, and Jardine will likely return to his role. In addition to this coaching shuffle, the club also made the decision not to release any players for the Mexican national team’s January fixtures, further indicating the priority of fine-tuning their squad.
America’s approach reflects a focus on long-term team development, ensuring the best possible preparation for their push toward a fourth consecutive title.
