Luke Plapp Claims Third National Time Trial Championship in Thrilling Victory
Luke Plapp has added another victory to his illustrious career, claiming his third Australian Men's Time Trial Championship on Thursday in Perth. Plapp, who had to fight through the aftereffects of a disappointing Paris Olympics that led to abdominal surgery, showed exceptional resilience and determination to win the prestigious title. Racing on the 38.4-kilometer course at Bold Park, Plapp emerged victorious after a nail-biting battle with his rival, Jay Vine.
The reigning champion and Jayco AlUla rider clocked in an impressive 46 minutes and 33 seconds, narrowly defeating Vine by just 8.77 seconds. This victory is a sweet redemption for Plapp, who had to endure the physical and emotional challenges following his setback at the Paris Olympics. "I knew I was capable, so there was a lot of fire in my belly to prove it again," Plapp admitted after the race. The win adds to his growing legacy, having previously taken the crown in 2021, and he is now a three-time national time trial champion.
