Team Ninja has officially announced Ninja Gaiden 4 , marking the franchise's long-awaited return since 2012. Revealed at the Xbox Developer Direct, this upcoming installment is being developed in collaboration with the renowned PlatinumGames, the creative force behind Bayonetta and Nier: Automata . With this dream team at the helm, fans can expect an action-packed spectacle when the game launches in Fall 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles, including a Day One release on Xbox Game Pass.
The story introduces a new protagonist, Yukumo, a young ninja from the Raven Clan. Set in a cyberpunk Tokyo drenched in a cursed rain called the "Darkrot," the narrative promises a blend of traditional ninja lore and a futuristic dystopia. Players will face demonic enemies, agents of the Divine Dragon Order, and the looming threat of an evil dragon at the heart of the chaos. Alongside Yukumo, the legendary Ryu Hayabusa returns to the series, playing a pivotal role in the unfolding drama. While their clans remain rivals, the inevitable partnership between Yukumo and Ryu hints at gripping conflicts and epic battles.
The gameplay stays true to the series’ roots, featuring lightning-fast swordplay, visceral combat, and masterful parrying mechanics. Fans will appreciate the return of brutal finishers and the introduction of fresh abilities like Yukumo’s sorcerous wing for aerial attacks and dark energy techniques for crowd control.
