Winter Storm Disrupts Maryland Schools with Closures and Delays
Hey everyone, here’s the latest update on how the winter storm has impacted schools across Maryland. As we continue to deal with icy conditions after a significant snowfall earlier this week, some schools in the state have had to either delay or cancel classes entirely.
The snowstorm that swept through on Monday dropped between 3 and 12 inches of snow in various areas, with temperatures plummeting into the lower 20s overnight. This has led to icy roads, making travel risky and forcing school administrations to take precautions. Schools like Anne Arundel Community College, Charles County Public Schools, and Howard County Public Schools, among others, remain closed today, while others like Baltimore County and Harford County Public Schools opted for a two-hour delay.

Even though Baltimore City Public Schools have chosen to remain open, authorities are urging caution. Road conditions are still hazardous, with black ice posing a particular threat. Snowplows have been working hard to keep main roads clear, but side streets and less-traveled areas might still be treacherous.
For those venturing out, officials recommend driving slowly, keeping an eye out for icy patches, and being particularly mindful around snowplows. If you do find yourself stranded, staying in your vehicle until it’s safe is advised. Also, make sure your car's exhaust pipe is clear of snow to avoid the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Looking ahead, the freezing temperatures are expected to persist throughout the week, and there’s even the possibility of more snow this weekend. Residents are encouraged to prepare for continued winter weather, keeping safety kits with blankets, water, and warm clothing in their vehicles.
Let’s all do our part to stay safe and help each other during these chilly days. Check on neighbors, especially those who might need extra assistance, and keep up with weather updates to plan accordingly. Stay warm and be careful out there!
