This prompts him to make the difficult decision to leave Weatherfield and travel to India to support his family. His departure means saying goodbye—for now—to his partner Bernie, played by Jane Hazlegrove, and his children, Aadi and Asha. But there’s good news—Dev’s departure isn’t permanent. A Coronation Street spokesperson has confirmed that Jimmi Harkishin will return to the soap in the spring. So while his exit may be emotional, it’s not a final farewell.
This shake-up comes amid ITV’s recent decision to reduce the number of Coronation Street episodes per week. From 2026, the soap will move to half-hour episodes airing daily, instead of its current hour-long format on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The same changes will apply to Emmerdale , which will also see its Thursday hour-long episode cut down.
Jimmi Harkishin’s character has been at the heart of many gripping storylines over the years, and most recently, Dev has been a pillar of strength for Bernie as she mourns the loss of her son Paul, who tragically passed away from motor neurone disease. Now, with Aadi and Amy’s romance blossoming and Asha making strides as a student paramedic, the Alahan family has plenty of drama ahead—even with Dev’s temporary absence.
