According to reports from the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to a call around 3:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of Ross Avenue. Allegedly, Armstrong got into an argument with a woman, during which he struck her with a firearm and even threatened to shoot her. The Mavericks quickly addressed the situation, releasing a statement confirming that they are aware of the incident. They emphasized that they take the matter seriously and have placed Armstrong on administrative suspension while the legal process unfolds. At this point, they’re not making any further comments, letting the legal system take its course.
For those unfamiliar with Armstrong’s background, he’s been with the Mavericks’ coaching staff for over a decade, first joining in the 2008-09 season. Before transitioning to coaching, he played in the NBA for 14 seasons, with stints in Orlando, New Orleans, Indiana, New Jersey, and Dallas. His playing career had its highlights—back in 1999, he won both the NBA’s Sixth Man Award and the Most Improved Player Award. He was also part of the Mavericks squad that reached the NBA Finals in 2006.
This is definitely a developing story, and we’ll have to wait and see what unfolds next. Will the charges hold up? How will this impact his future with the Mavericks and the NBA? Stay tuned—this one is far from over.
