Jalen Brunson Returns to the 3-Point Contest for All-Star Weekend
Big news for New York Knicks fans—Jalen Brunson is officially back in the 3-Point Contest at this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend! The NBA has released its list of participants for the 2025 Starry 3-Point Contest, and Brunson is set to compete for the second straight year. After finishing sixth in last year’s event, he’s coming back with a chance to improve and possibly take home the title.
Brunson won’t have it easy, though. He’s facing off against some of the best shooters in the league, including two-time defending champion Damian Lillard from the Milwaukee Bucks. Other top contenders include Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons), Darius Garland (Cleveland Cavaliers), Tyler Herro (Miami Heat), Buddy Hield (Golden State Warriors), Cam Johnson (Brooklyn Nets), and Norman Powell (LA Clippers).

This marks the third straight year that a Knicks player will compete in the event. Last year, Brunson represented New York, and back in 2022, Julius Randle stepped in as an injury replacement. Despite these appearances, no Knicks player has ever won the contest since it first began in 1986. Could Brunson be the one to break that streak?
Meanwhile, Lillard is chasing history. If he secures another win, he’ll become just the third player in NBA history to win the contest three times, joining legends Larry Bird (1986-88) and Craig Hodges (1990-92). That’s some elite company, and you can bet he’ll be looking to cement his legacy.
Last year’s contest also featured a special twist—a head-to-head showdown between NBA superstar Stephen Curry and WNBA sharpshooter Sabrina Ionescu. Curry narrowly edged out Ionescu in an epic battle of pure shooting. While there’s no word yet on whether Ionescu will be back for another round, fans are definitely hoping for a rematch.
Brunson has already made his mark as a leader for the Knicks, but winning the 3-Point Contest would be a huge statement. The competition is stacked, but with his shooting ability and confidence, anything is possible. Knicks fans, mark your calendars—All-Star Saturday on February 15 is going to be a must-watch!
