Kings Edge Timberwolves in Thriller After Trading De’Aaron Fox
What a night for the Sacramento Kings! Just hours after finalizing a blockbuster trade that sent De’Aaron Fox to San Antonio and brought Zach LaVine to town, the Kings pulled off a nail-biting 116-114 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It wasn’t easy, but Sacramento showed resilience, with DeMar DeRozan leading the charge, dropping 33 points to secure the win.
Malik Monk also stepped up big time in Fox’s absence, delivering 26 points, eight rebounds, and five assists while taking control of the offense. Keegan Murray added 19 points, helping Sacramento close out a rough 2-6 road trip on a high note. It’s a fresh start for the Kings, who are hoping the addition of LaVine can give them an extra spark moving forward.

On the other side, Minnesota fought hard despite missing Julius Randle for the second straight game due to a groin injury. Naz Reid put on a show, leading the Timberwolves with a season-high 30 points, including a scorching 16-point first quarter. Jaden McDaniels contributed 22 points, and Anthony Edwards chipped in with 21, but it just wasn’t enough to stop Sacramento’s late-game execution.
The Timberwolves clawed back from a 12-point deficit and even took a brief 91-90 lead early in the fourth quarter. However, every time they made a push, the Kings had an answer. One of the biggest moments came with just 30 seconds left when DeRozan drove to the basket and finished strong, putting Sacramento up 110-106. From there, they held on, with Monk knocking down clutch free throws to seal the deal.
Minnesota, who had been looking to bounce back after an embarrassing loss to the NBA-worst Washington Wizards, now finds itself in a two-game skid. The Timberwolves attempted 16 more three-pointers than the Kings (40-24) but only managed to make two more shots from deep, showing some inefficiency from beyond the arc.
Up next, the Kings will return home to host the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, while the Timberwolves will try to regroup as they welcome the Chicago Bulls. And of course, all eyes will be on Zach LaVine’s debut in a Kings uniform—Sacramento fans are eager to see how their new star fits into the mix!
