Quebec to Enjoy a Sunny Winter Weekend Instead of a Storm

If you were bracing for a snowstorm in Quebec this weekend, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Despite earlier weather models suggesting a major snow system moving into the province, the latest forecasts indicate that the storm will stay further south, hitting New England instead. Instead of heavy snowfall and difficult conditions, Quebecers can expect a beautiful winter weekend—perfect for outdoor activities.

According to meteorologist Félix Biron from Environment Canada, the province will see only minor snowfall, with a small dusting of snow rather than a significant accumulation. While areas near the U.S. border, including regions close to Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, might see some "small spillovers" from the storm, the vast majority of Quebec will remain largely unaffected.

Montreal is expected to receive no more than 3 cm of snow on Saturday, accompanied by a brisk morning temperature of -12°C, which could feel closer to -18°C with wind chill. Despite the cold, the skies should remain mostly clear throughout the province, providing excellent conditions for skiing, skating, and other winter activities. On Sunday, light snowfall of about 1 cm is possible, but cloud cover will be more prominent.

Interestingly, snowfall levels across the province this winter have been below average. In Montreal, for instance, snowfall has totaled around 95 to 100 cm since November, whereas the seasonal norm is about 125 cm. However, as Félix Biron points out, the accumulated snowbanks still give the impression of a typical winter, so the deficit is not overly noticeable.

For those who love winter sports, this weekend is shaping up to be ideal. With clear skies and moderate snowfall, ski resorts should see great conditions, and outdoor enthusiasts will have a perfect chance to enjoy the fresh, crisp air. While parts of the northeastern United States will be dealing with heavy snow and strong winds, Quebecers can take advantage of what Biron calls "beautiful winter weather" instead. So, bundle up, step outside, and make the most of this bright and snowy weekend!
