Radio 4 Brings Back Unspeakable for More Laughter and Creativity

Exciting news for comedy lovers! BBC Radio 4 has officially ordered two more series of its hit word-based panel show Unspeakable . Hosted by the brilliant Phil Wang alongside lexicographer Susie Dent, this unique show challenges guests to come up with brand-new words for everyday experiences that, until now, had no name.

If you're a fan of clever wordplay and quick wit, Unspeakable is the perfect show to tune into. The format is reminiscent of The Meaning of Liff , Douglas Adams and John Lloyd’s 1980s classic, but with a fresh twist—rather than repurposing place names, the show invents completely new words. It's a playground for comedians and word nerds alike!

Some of the past guests on the show have included comedy heavyweights like Stephen Fry, Jo Brand, Jack Dee, Ed Gamble, and Roisin Conaty, among many others. Now, with two new series in the works, we can expect more hilarious and inventive word creations from some of the best in British comedy.

Fans of the show will be happy to hear that new episodes are being recorded at the Backyard Comedy Club in London on March 26th, April 2nd, and April 15th. And the best part? You can attend the recordings for free! Just grab your tickets via SRO Audiences and experience the fun firsthand.

The mastermind behind Unspeakable is producer Joe Varley, known for his work on Murder In Successville and the British adaptation of Drunk History . His company, Brown Bred Productions, has been instrumental in bringing this show to life.

Meanwhile, Susie Dent is also expanding her TV presence. Alongside Alan Carr, she will be co-hosting Secret Genius , a new Channel 4 reality show backed by Mensa. The show aims to uncover hidden intellectual talent across the UK, putting unsung geniuses through a series of brain-bending challenges.

So, if you love the clever and comedic chaos of Unspeakable , there’s plenty more coming your way. Stay tuned for more laughs, more words, and a whole lot of wit on Radio 4!
