Snowstorm Expected to Impact Schools Across Connecticut with Delays and Slippery Roads
As we head into the weekend, there's a growing concern about the incoming snowstorm that's expected to affect Connecticut. According to NBC Connecticut’s StormTracker, snow will begin moving in on Sunday night, with a significant impact likely across most of the state. For many, this means preparing for possible school delays or even cancellations the next day.
The storm is expected to hit after 6 p.m. on Sunday, starting with light snow in western Connecticut. As the night progresses, it will spread eastward across the state, intensifying around 9 to 11 p.m. The snowfall is expected to be fairly light for most areas, with an estimated 1 to 3 inches of snow expected statewide. However, some spots could see up to 4 inches, especially in higher elevations or areas away from the shoreline.

One of the biggest challenges with this snowstorm will be the timing. Snow will likely taper off by midnight, and by 3 a.m. on Monday, it will be over. However, the lingering effects will still be felt early on Monday, as any untreated surfaces may become slippery and hazardous. This is why a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for areas away from the coast, lasting from 7 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday.
For southeastern Connecticut near the shoreline, there’s the potential for a rain-snow mix, which could reduce total snow accumulation in those areas. Nevertheless, commuters and anyone heading out early Monday should remain cautious, as roads could still be slippery, even if snow accumulation is lighter in some parts.
As for the temperatures, Sunday will see a drop into the 20s, and the snow will likely persist into the night. However, by Monday afternoon, a warm front will push through, raising temperatures into the low to mid-40s. This will provide an opportunity for the snow to melt and conditions to improve as the day goes on.
The main takeaway for most residents is that schools in Connecticut are likely to experience delays on Monday, given the timing of the snowstorm and the possibility of slick roads during the morning commute. It’s a reminder for all of us to keep an eye on the weather forecast, stay prepared for changing conditions, and plan accordingly if you have to travel.
