Virgin Media Outage Leaves Thousands Without Internet
Hey everyone, if you're with Virgin Media, you might have already noticed—there’s a major internet outage affecting thousands of customers across the UK. Reports started coming in earlier this morning, around 9 AM, and the issues are still ongoing. According to Downdetector, over 1,000 users have already logged complaints, mainly about problems with their landline internet. Some users are also reporting issues with streaming services, making it even more frustrating for those trying to work from home or enjoy their usual entertainment.

People have taken to social media—especially X (formerly Twitter)—to vent their frustrations. One user sarcastically wrote, "Oh look, Virgin Media is on fire again. Must be the weekly outage." Another wasn’t holding back, saying, "Virgin Media will crumble, worst broadband in the country." Clearly, this isn’t just a minor inconvenience; it’s a real problem for many.
Virgin Media has responded, acknowledging the issue. A company spokesperson said, “We’re aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues with their services. We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to fix this as a priority.” While that’s a start, many customers are understandably frustrated, especially since this isn't the first time Virgin Media has faced major outages.
If you’re affected by this outage, you might be entitled to compensation. According to Virgin Media’s policy, if they don’t fix the issue within 48 hours, you’ll be credited £9.76 per day until it’s resolved. To claim this, you need to report the problem through Virgin Media’s website or customer service. Once your service is restored, any credit owed will be automatically applied to your bill.
If you’re unsure whether your broadband is down, you can check Virgin Media’s official website for service updates. Alternatively, websites like Downdetector can show if others in your area are facing similar issues.
Interestingly, this outage comes just after similar broadband issues with Community Fibre last week, which left millions of homes in London without service. It seems like internet providers are having a rough time lately, and customers are paying the price with unreliable service.
For now, all we can do is wait and hope Virgin Media resolves the issue quickly. If you’re affected, make sure to report it and check if you’re eligible for compensation. Let’s hope this gets sorted out soon because, let’s be honest—being without the internet in 2025 is not fun!
