Wanderers Dominate Mariners in Stunning 4-0 Victory
The Western Sydney Wanderers delivered a statement performance, crushing the Central Coast Mariners 4-0 in a dominant display at Industree Group Stadium. This emphatic win not only secured the Wanderers' place in the A-League's top six but also put a serious dent in the Mariners’ championship hopes.
Right from the kickoff, the Wanderers were in complete control. Within just six minutes, they were gifted a comical yet costly mistake from Mariners goalkeeper Adam Pavlesic, whose misjudged header set up an easy tap-in for Zac Sapsford. Just moments later, Sapsford turned provider, setting up Jack Clisby with a slick backheel assist to double the lead. The Mariners struggled to respond, and their frustrations grew when Alou Kuol thought he had pulled one back in the 39th minute, only for the goal to be disallowed due to a foul on Wanderers’ keeper Lawrence Thomas.

Before the first half was even over, the game was effectively wrapped up. Nicolas Milanovic extended the visitors' lead in the 40th minute, redirecting a powerful Dean Pelekanos shot into the back of the net. By halftime, the scoreboard read 3-0, and the Wanderers had left no doubt about their intent.
The Mariners tried to regroup in the second half, but things went from bad to worse. In the 69th minute, Pavlesic conceded a penalty after tripping Marcus Antonsson in the box. Although he initially saved the penalty, VAR determined he had moved off his line too early. Given a second chance, Antonsson calmly slotted the ball home, sealing a dominant 4-0 win for the Wanderers.
With this victory, the Wanderers climbed to third on the A-League ladder, at least temporarily, while the Mariners find themselves languishing in 10th place, with their hopes of defending their title fading fast. The pressure is mounting on Central Coast as they struggle for form, and with only eight games remaining in the season, time is running out for them to turn things around.
