Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow, Ice, and Dangerous Roads Ahead

Alright, folks, we have another round of winter weather heading our way, and this one looks like it’s going to pack a punch. Forecasters are warning that a strong winter storm is set to hit New Jersey and other parts of the East Coast this weekend, bringing a messy mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. If you have plans for Super Bowl weekend, you might want to rethink them because travel conditions could become hazardous, especially late Saturday into early Sunday.

The National Weather Service has already issued a winter storm watch for several counties in North Jersey, including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union. Right now, predictions suggest anywhere from 4 to 6 inches of snow in the northern areas and around 2 to 4 inches in the northeast part of the state . On top of that, there’s a good chance of freezing rain creating a thin but dangerous layer of ice —enough to make roads, sidewalks, and bridges extra slippery.

The storm is expected to start moving in Saturday afternoon or evening , with snowfall quickly turning into a sloppy mix of sleet and freezing rain. By early Sunday morning, the storm should begin to taper off, but leftover snow and rain showers could linger , especially in the northern and eastern parts of the state.

And here’s the kicker: this isn’t the only storm we need to watch. Another winter system is brewing and could hit us again by Tuesday afternoon , with moderate to heavy snowfall possible into the evening. Forecasters are still working out the details, but if the latest models hold up, we could see another round of treacherous driving conditions next week .

For those along the Jersey Shore and in South Jersey, the storm will likely start as snow before changing over to rain. That transition could create periods of freezing rain, making untreated roads even more dangerous.

Bottom line? Plan ahead. If you have to drive this weekend, be extremely cautious—especially on bridges and overpasses, which tend to ice over first. And if you can, stay home and avoid unnecessary travel until the storm passes.

Stay tuned for updates because with another potential storm next week, winter isn’t done with us yet. Stay safe out there!
