Alison Hammond in Tears as She Bids Farewell to This Morning Boss
It was an emotional day on This Morning as Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson broke down in tears, saying a heartfelt goodbye to their long-time boss, Martin Frizell. After a decade at the helm of the ITV daytime show, Frizell has stepped down, marking the end of an era.
Alison, known for her infectious energy and warmth, couldn’t hold back her emotions as she credited Martin for transforming her career. She and Josie both acknowledged that without him taking a chance on them, they wouldn’t be where they are today. “He believed in us before we even believed in ourselves,” Josie admitted, her voice trembling.

Frizell, who has been with This Morning for ten years, originally announced his departure in November, explaining that he wanted to prioritize his family, particularly his wife Fiona Phillips, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022. His decision to step away from the demanding world of live television was met with understanding but also deep sadness from the This Morning team, who had come to see him as a mentor and leader.
Alison and Josie reminisced about the incredible moments they had shared under Martin’s leadership—from fun-filled Halloween specials to meaningful campaigns on issues like mental health and menopause. "He didn't just run a show; he changed lives," Alison said, wiping away tears.
Martin, always one to deflect praise, gave the duo a reassuring send-off. "If you were both rubbish, you wouldn't be on telly," he joked, proving once again why he was so well-loved by the team.
With Frizell’s departure, This Morning is set to undergo changes, with Vivek Sharma stepping in as the new editor. But for Alison, Josie, and the rest of the team, Martin Frizell’s legacy will remain, woven into the very fabric of the show. As Alison put it, "It's the end of an era, but what a ride it has been!"
