Brisbane Lions Set to Unfurl Premiership Flag Ahead of Clash with West Coast
Alright footy fans, it’s a big day at the Gabba! The Brisbane Lions are ready to kick off their first home game of the season in style, unfurling their premiership flag before taking on the West Coast Eagles. This is a moment of celebration for the Lions, but make no mistake—the focus quickly shifts to business as they aim to go 2-0 in their title defense.
Coming off a thrilling Grand Final rematch win against Sydney, the Lions are looking sharp. They had their fair share of pre-season challenges, including injuries and off-field distractions, but their depth is undeniable. Despite these setbacks, Brisbane has already proven they can handle the pressure, and today’s clash against the Eagles should be no different.

On the other hand, West Coast had a horror start to the season. Under new coach Andrew McQualter, the Eagles were demolished by Gold Coast in their opening game, suffering the biggest loss in Suns history. Ouch! While they did bring in some experienced recruits during the off-season, they’ll need more than just names on a team sheet to challenge the reigning premiers. Energy, effort, and a bit of grit will be key if they want to make this a contest.
The weather is expected to be scorching at 29 degrees, prompting the AFL to extend quarter-time and three-quarter-time breaks by two minutes and allow extra water carriers. Hydration will be just as important as skill in today’s match!
As for team changes, Brisbane has called up former Sun Sam Day for his first game in Lions colors, while young gun Will McLachlan is set to make his AFL debut. For West Coast, Bailey Williams, Jack Petruccelle, and high-flying forward Liam Ryan join the side, while Jake Waterman and Jack Hutchinson are out.
With the flag unfurled, the stage is set. Can the Lions flex their dominance at home, or will the Eagles pull off a stunning upset? Footy fans, it’s game time!
