Mississippi State basketball is gearing up for an exciting NCAA Tournament run, and head coach Chris Jans is at the center of it all. The Bulldogs, an eighth seed in the tournament, will take on ninth-seeded Baylor this Friday in Raleigh, North Carolina, with the game set to air on CBS at 11:15 AM CT. Ahead of this high-stakes matchup, Jans addressed the media, sharing insights on the team’s preparation and mindset going into the big dance.

Jans, who has led Mississippi State to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances for the first time since 2003-05, continues to cement his legacy as one of the program’s most successful coaches. His leadership has brought stability and excitement to the Bulldogs, with fans eager to see how far this team can go in the tournament.

But the good news doesn’t stop there for Coach Jans. Thanks to his impressive track record, Mississippi State has rewarded him with a contract extension and a salary raise. Under the terms of his Bulldog Club contract, Jans automatically receives a one-year extension and a $100,000 salary increase each time the team makes the NCAA Tournament. This latest achievement bumps his salary up to $4.4 million for next season, with incremental raises leading up to the 2029-30 season, where he’ll earn $5.55 million.

Beyond the base salary, Jans also has lucrative performance incentives in place. He receives a $50,000 bonus just for making the tournament, with additional payouts depending on how far the Bulldogs advance. A trip to the second round would earn him another $100,000, while a Sweet 16 appearance brings in $150,000. If Mississippi State reaches the Elite Eight, Final Four, or championship game, those numbers jump significantly, culminating in a $500,000 bonus if he leads the Bulldogs to a national title.

Mississippi State enters the tournament with momentum, having recently secured a commanding 91-62 win over LSU in the SEC Tournament. However, they also faced some tough losses, including a narrow 93-92 defeat to Arkansas and an overtime battle against Texas that ended in an 87-82 loss. Despite these setbacks, the Bulldogs are determined to make a statement on the national stage.

Jans' impact on Mississippi State basketball extends beyond just wins and losses. His ability to develop talent, recruit effectively, and build a competitive program in the challenging SEC landscape has been instrumental in the team's resurgence. With 63 wins in his first three seasons—the most in program history—he stands alongside legendary SEC coaches like John Calipari, Bruce Pearl, and Tubby Smith in terms of early success.

As Mississippi State gets set for its NCAA Tournament showdown with Baylor, fans have plenty to be excited about. With a proven coach, a talented roster, and a hunger for postseason success, the Bulldogs are poised to make some noise in March Madness. All eyes will be on Chris Jans and his squad as they look to extend their season and chase a deep tournament run.
