Ellen Pompeo's Surprising Reason for Keeping Her Daughter Away from 'Grey's Anatomy'
Ellen Pompeo has spent two decades as Dr. Meredith Grey on "Grey’s Anatomy," captivating audiences worldwide. But while millions of fans have followed her journey in the medical drama, there's one person who isn't quite ready to watch—her 10-year-old daughter, Sienna.
During a recent appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," Pompeo shared a candid and humorous reason why she’s holding off on letting her younger child watch the show. Her eldest daughter, 15-year-old Stella, has already seen it, and now, naturally, her younger sibling is curious. However, Pompeo isn’t quite on board with that idea yet.
"She’s not ready, but a lot of kids in her class have seen it," Pompeo admitted. "No judgment on other parents, but I don’t want my daughter to see me in my underwear on television just yet! But all her classmates have, so that makes for great conversation at pickup."

While she respects other parents’ choices, she prefers to keep certain moments private—at least for now.
This conversation comes at a time when "Grey’s Anatomy" is celebrating its 20th anniversary, marking a milestone since its premiere in March 2005. Pompeo, who stepped back from the show in 2023 after 19 seasons, still makes guest appearances and remains a vital part of the series.
Beyond "Grey’s Anatomy," Pompeo is gearing up for her next big project, "Good American Family," a true crime drama premiering this March on Hulu. This marks her first major role outside of "Grey’s Anatomy" in two decades, proving that she’s still a powerhouse in the entertainment industry.
Pompeo has always been open about her career choices, and she recently admitted that staying on "Grey’s Anatomy" for so long was largely a financial decision. "The best thing is the financial security, if I’m being very honest," she revealed in a recent interview. "It’s been really lucrative, and I think financial security is not something that every actress is afforded. I’m very grateful for that."
Despite stepping away from a full-time role in "Grey’s Anatomy," Pompeo remains a beloved figure in television. And while her younger daughter may have to wait a bit longer to see her mom’s iconic role, fans can still look forward to seeing more of Pompeo on screen in the near future.
