“I’m so sick of hearing how ‘talented’ this group of players is and all the amazing clubs they play for. If you aren’t going to show up and actually give a s!%* about playing for your national team, decline the invite. Talent is great, pride is better.”
That’s a brutal but honest take. And it’s hard to argue with him. The U.S. had only one shot on goal in the first 84 minutes of the match, a shocking stat for a team that boasts players competing in some of the biggest leagues in the world. This wasn’t a fluke loss. It was a lack of urgency, effort, and passion—things that should be non-negotiable when representing your country.
Canada, on the other hand, came in with a clear game plan and executed it well. Jonathan David’s 59th-minute goal sealed the 2-1 victory for them, earning them third place in the tournament. The U.S., meanwhile, was left with nothing but questions.
