Rooney Calls Amorim 'Naive' as Man United's Struggles Continue

Well, things are heating up at Old Trafford again! After yet another disappointing night for Manchester United, former club legend Wayne Rooney has called manager Ruben Amorim "naive" for stating that the club's goal is to win the Premier League. And honestly, given the current state of United, you can see where Rooney’s coming from.

United crashed out of the FA Cup after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout against Fulham, with Bernd Leno emerging as the hero. Joshua Zirkzee's missed penalty sealed United’s fate, leaving them without a domestic cup to fight for. And with their league form looking shaky—10 defeats in 24 games under Amorim—Rooney didn’t hold back when analyzing the situation.

Speaking as a pundit on Match of the Day , Rooney questioned Amorim’s approach, saying that talking about winning the league at this stage is unrealistic. Instead, he suggested the manager should focus on short-term goals, like actually improving performances and securing European football for next season. “How can they compete for the title when they are struggling to climb the table?” Rooney asked.

Amorim, however, isn’t backing down. He defended his vision, stating that while United may not be contenders this season or even next, the long-term goal remains the same—bringing the Premier League title back to Old Trafford. He even took a subtle dig at pundits like Rooney, saying it’s easy to analyze from the outside but much harder to manage a team in real time.

Meanwhile, Zirkzee, who missed a crucial penalty, took to Instagram to apologize to the fans, showing his frustration and regret. Despite his struggles earlier this season, his relationship with the supporters has improved, and he’s determined to turn things around.

But for Amorim, the pressure is mounting. With United sitting in 14th place in the league and out of the FA Cup, their only real chance at silverware is the Europa League. And if things don’t improve soon, his time in charge could be short-lived.

What do you think? Is Amorim’s ambition admirable, or is Rooney right to call him naive? One thing’s for sure—United fans are running out of patience.
