In exchange, the U.S. released Arthur Petrov, a dual Russian-German citizen who was facing charges in the U.S. for illegally exporting microelectronics to Russia, supposedly for use by the Russian military. It was a tense trade, but it brought Ksenia back home.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed her release, saying she was “wrongfully detained” and is now on a plane heading back to the States. He credited President Trump for negotiating her release, emphasizing that this administration remains committed to bringing home Americans detained abroad.
