April Fool's Winter Storm Brings Snow and Closures Across Minnesota
Hey everyone, it's time to buckle up because winter isn’t quite ready to say goodbye yet! Just as we were starting to enjoy the idea of spring, Mother Nature decided to pull an April Fool’s joke of her own. A late-season winter storm is sweeping across Minnesota, bringing a mix of heavy snow, freezing rain, and tricky road conditions that could impact travel and even school schedules.
As of this evening, snow has already started falling in parts of the state, especially north and west of the Twin Cities. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Weather Advisories for several counties, warning of accumulating snow, icy roads, and reduced visibility. For those commuting tonight or early tomorrow morning, expect slick and potentially hazardous conditions, particularly in the northern and western regions.

In the Twin Cities, the situation is a bit different. The snow will mix with rain overnight as temperatures slowly rise. By Wednesday, metro areas will see mostly rain with temperatures reaching the mid-40s, which should help improve road conditions by midday. However, northern Minnesota isn’t off the hook just yet—snowfall is expected to continue well into Wednesday, with some areas accumulating up to 10 inches!
Of course, with these winter conditions returning, school districts are closely monitoring the situation. Some schools have already announced delays or closures for Wednesday due to the snow and road conditions. Parents and students should check their local school district's websites or tune in to local news stations for the latest updates on school closures.
But there is good news! After this winter blast moves out, Minnesota is finally in for a break. By Thursday and Friday, drier and more seasonable weather returns, with highs in the 40s and even 50s by the weekend. If you’ve got outdoor plans, you can expect a much better setup with partly cloudy skies and milder temperatures.
So hang in there, Minnesota! This might be one last push from winter before we fully embrace spring. Stay safe on the roads, keep an eye on school updates, and look forward to the warmer days ahead!
