Helping Hands in Hard Times — Yorkshire Water Brings Bill Support to Hull
Hey everyone, I just wanted to share something really important happening this week that could make a real difference for a lot of households in Hull. Yorkshire Water is setting up a special drop-in event this Thursday, right in Queen Victoria Square, to offer bill support to people who might be struggling with their water costs.
Now, this isn’t just a chat or a flyer handout. It's a full-on opportunity to see if you're eligible for financial support, get help right there on the spot, and potentially save hundreds of pounds on your water bills. You can grab a cuppa, sit down with someone from their team, and find out if there's a way to ease that monthly burden a bit.

They’ve already been running these events across the region and the results have been genuinely impressive. Over the past month alone, more than 90 customers who attended these sessions ended up saving a total of £26,000. That’s about £277 per person, just from learning about and signing up for support schemes they didn’t even know they qualified for. In one case, a family from Bradford saved £700 a year by registering for WaterSupport, while someone in Doncaster knocked £400 off their bill by joining another program.
All of this is happening against the backdrop of an upcoming water bill increase in 2025-26—roughly £135 more a year on average. That’s about £11 extra per month, which, let’s be honest, can really add up. Yorkshire Water says this increase is tied to a massive £8.3 billion investment plan, the biggest environmental push they’ve ever done. It’s aimed at improving infrastructure and meeting environmental targets, which is great—but they’re also very aware that it puts extra pressure on people’s pockets.
That’s why I think this initiative is so valuable. It’s not just about offering help; it’s about making sure the support that already exists actually reaches the people who need it most. And the fact they’re focusing on communities with low awareness or uptake of these schemes shows they’re trying to be proactive, not just reactive.
So, if you or someone you know is finding it hard to keep up with the rising bills, swing by the square this Thursday. You might walk away with some peace of mind, and some serious savings too.
