Oklahoma Softball Shines Bright in Record-Breaking Bedlam Victory
So, let’s talk about what just went down in Oklahoma City — because if you're a fan of college softball, this is one of those moments that deserves a spotlight. We witnessed history as the No. 2-ranked Oklahoma Sooners took down No. 17 Oklahoma State in an electric Bedlam showdown, and they did it in front of an NCAA regular-season record crowd of 9,259 fans at Devon Park. I mean, that number alone tells you how massive this game was.

The Cowgirls came out swinging — literally — scoring two unearned runs right off the bat in the first inning, thanks to a throwing error and a bobbled grounder from the Sooners’ defense. It looked like OSU had something going early. Then Rosie Davis stepped up in the third inning and absolutely launched a homer to right-center. That was her sixth of the season, and at that moment, OSU led 3-0. The atmosphere was buzzing, and you could feel the tension building.
But you just can’t count out Oklahoma — they’ve built a dynasty for a reason. In the bottom of the third, Kasidi Pickering answered back with a two-run blast to put the Sooners on the board. Then came the fourth inning, and that’s when the Sooners truly turned it on. Five runs. Just like that, they flipped the momentum and never looked back. Ailana Agbayani’s diving grab with the infield in — that was clutch. She robbed OSU of what could’ve been a game-changing hit with the bases loaded and no outs. That play alone was a turning point.
By the fifth inning, OU added another five runs, bringing the final score to 11-3 and ending the game early via the run rule. Sam Landry picked up the win and moved to 12-2, while Ruby Meylan took the loss for OSU. It was a tough outing for the Cowgirls' pitching staff, especially after such a promising start.
This wasn’t just any rivalry game. It was part of the Bedlam Series, where bragging rights in Oklahoma sports are always on the line. And while Oklahoma State still holds an edge in this year's overall Bedlam standings, this softball win for OU definitely narrows the gap. It’s worth noting, too, that OSU has dominated the all-sports Bedlam Series for most of the past decade, winning it in 10 of the last 12 years. But moments like this? They belong to the Sooners.
The Cowgirls will have to regroup quickly as they head into a weekend series against Iowa State, starting Friday in Stillwater. You can catch those games on ESPN+ or the Varsity Network app. But for now, hats off to Oklahoma — this was a statement win, a historic crowd, and one of those games that reminds you why we love college sports.
