Rain Delays Rivalry as Blue Jays and Orioles Postpone Series Opener

What was shaping up to be an exciting Friday night in the AL East took an unexpected turn. The highly anticipated April 11 showdown between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles has been officially postponed due to forecasted inclement weather. Fans expecting a heated clash at the ballpark were instead greeted with a disappointing—but understandable—update: Mother Nature had other plans.

The postponement doesn’t cancel the game altogether, though. Instead, the matchup will now be played as part of a split-admission doubleheader on Tuesday, July 29. The first game is set to begin at 12:35 p.m. ET, and the second will follow in its originally scheduled evening slot at 6:35 p.m. ET. Fans who held tickets for Friday's game won't need to worry—they’ll automatically be granted access to the early game on the rescheduled date, keeping their original seats. Entry will be digital through the MLB Ballpark App, and the flexibility to transfer or resell tickets via SeatGeek remains intact.

The Orioles have even thrown in a little incentive: the first 10,000 fans through the gates for the early game on July 29 will receive a Clear Stadium Bag—a small but thoughtful gesture to sweeten the deal.

Both games of the doubleheader will be broadcast on MASN and across the Orioles Radio Network, including 98 Rock FM and WBAL NewsRadio AM/FM, so fans can still tune in, even if they can’t make it in person.

Looking at the standings, this delay adds a bit more tension. The Blue Jays, coming off a four-game series against the Red Sox—where they impressively took three of four—are sitting tied atop the AL East with the Yankees at 8-6. Meanwhile, the Orioles are in a very different place, finding themselves at the bottom with a 5-8 record. The two teams had split a four-game series back in March to start the season, so this postponed game could prove pivotal down the line, especially in a tight division race.

It’s always a letdown when a game gets postponed, especially one with so much divisional significance, but safety always comes first. With two games now set for July 29, fans can mark their calendars for what promises to be a packed day of AL East action. Here’s hoping the skies are clear and the bats are hot when Baltimore and Toronto finally get back to it.
