Nuggets Surge in 4th to Force Game 7 Showdown in Oklahoma City

Man, what a game. If you’re a basketball fan, this one had everything: grit, guts, and just enough drama to set up a massive Game 7. The Denver Nuggets, facing elimination and still haunted by back-to-back fourth-quarter collapses, came through when it mattered most. They beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 119-107 in Game 6 to tie up the series 3-3 and now it’s all or nothing in Oklahoma City on Sunday.

Let’s talk about how they got it done.

Denver came into this one knowing they had to shake off the weight of the past two games — both of which saw them squander late leads. But tonight was different. From the jump, Jamal Murray, who was literally a game-time decision due to illness, came out firing. He nailed a four-point play to open the scoring and ended up with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. If there was ever a playoff flu game for Denver, that was it.

The Nuggets led 90-82 heading into the fourth, and this time, they didn't flinch. Instead of leaning entirely on Nikola Jokić late like they did in Game 5, head coach David Adelman gave him early rest — and it paid off. Julian Strawther stepped up off the bench, hit huge threes, and brought the kind of energy Denver had been missing. When Jokić checked back in, the lead was even bigger, and OKC never got close again.

Jokić did his thing too — 29 points, 14 boards, 8 assists — nearly a triple-double. Christian Braun also turned in a standout performance with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists. And just for good measure, Michael Porter Jr. hit timely shots despite playing through a shoulder injury.

Now, let’s not pretend OKC didn’t show up. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 32 on incredibly efficient shooting. But the Thunder’s depth wasn’t quite enough this time. Chet Holmgren was solid, and Lu Dort had his moments, but too many of their key guys struggled. Jalen Williams in particular had a rough night, going just 3-for-16 from the field.

So here we are. After a battle-tested win in front of a raucous Denver crowd, the Nuggets are headed to Game 7. And it’s in Oklahoma City — a brutal place to play with a trip to the Western Conference Finals on the line. The winner gets Minnesota next, and both teams know what's at stake.

Sunday, 3:30 p.m. ET. Game 7. Let’s go.
