
Canmore to Open 2025/26 IBU Para Biathlon World Cup Season with Global Spotlight
Hey everyone! Big news for Canmore and the entire world of Para sports—mark your calendars because Canmore, Alberta, is set to kick off the 2025/2026 IBU Para Biathlon World Cup season this December. Yes, the biathlon world will once again turn its eyes to our iconic Canmore Nordic Centre, where athletes from around the globe will converge for one of the most inclusive and high-energy competitions on snow.

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) officially released the calendar, and Canmore proudly takes center stage from December 8 to 14, 2025 , hosting the very first World Cup stop. The competition days are locked in for December 11, 13, and 14 , featuring three of the sport’s cornerstone events: the Sprint, Sprint Pursuit, and the Individual. For many athletes, these races will serve as an important lead-up to the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina.
After Canmore, the season moves across Europe, with events in Notschrei, Germany (January 5–11), and Jakuszyce, Poland (January 19–25), before culminating at the Paralympics in Val di Fiemme, Italy, from March 5–13, 2026. It’s a packed season that promises not only elite athleticism but also inspirational stories of resilience and excellence.
Let’s not forget, Canmore has a remarkable track record. The last time the Para World Cup visited here in 2021, Canadian athletes claimed a stunning 17 medals—including four golds by Brittany Hudak and multiple podiums for stars like Natalie Wilkie, Collin Cameron, and Brian McKeever. And guess what? Hudak is back and hungry for more, openly expressing her drive to become a Paralympic champion.
