Monaghan, best known for her powerful performance in True Detective Season 1, signed on to play Jaclyn Lemon, a super glamorous celebrity on a girls’ trip to Thailand. It was a role that felt miles away from who Monaghan is in real life. And while the character’s storyline may have been one of the tamer ones in the twisted, sun-drenched chaos of The White Lotus , the transformation into Jaclyn required one bold change—going blonde.
In an interview with People magazine, Monaghan opened up about her concerns. As a natural brunette, the idea of bleaching her hair for a long shoot in the Thai heat had her worried. Understandably so—anyone who's gone blonde knows how damaging that process can be. But here's where it gets kind of fabulous: she had celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham flying back and forth between the U.S. and Thailand just to maintain her hair’s health and keep the shade looking perfect. Very Jaclyn, right?
Monaghan admitted that the dramatic makeover helped her step into the character more fully. “Jaclyn is such a departure from me,” she said. “She likes the makeup, she likes the pink tan, she likes the blonde hair. It’s done. She does herself up.” That transformation—from Michelle to Jaclyn—became part of the fun, letting her explore a persona so unlike her real self.
By the time filming wrapped, not only had Monaghan kept her hair healthy, she was able to return to her natural brunette look without any issues. And while Jaclyn’s storyline in Season 3 didn’t quite end with a dramatic twist or fiery death (as so many White Lotus tales do), fans are already wondering if she might return for another season.
