Tom Aspinall Declares Era of Jon Jones Over, Claims Undisputed UFC Throne

You know, I think it’s time we stop waiting for Jon Jones. Tom Aspinall sure has, and honestly? I get it. The guy has been sitting on the sidelines, being trolled online and in interviews by Jon for over a year. Now, he’s had enough—and he's making it clear that he’s moving forward with or without "Bones" in the picture.

Just recently, on the Good Guy/Bad Guy show with Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, Aspinall came out and said it straight: Jon Jones is retired. In his words, “Jon’s retired… What are you talking about? The guy is living his best life.” And he’s not wrong—Jon has been pretty vocal about focusing on happiness, love, family, and basically everything but fighting. No training footage, no fight announcements, just philosophical musings and lifestyle talk.

Aspinall, on the other hand, is laser-focused. He’s ready to defend what he considers the true UFC heavyweight title. “I’m the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world,” he said. And you know what? With Jon out of the picture this long and no clear timeline for return, that statement feels more like fact than bravado. He wants to make the division active again, to fight real contenders, and bring the fire back to heavyweight MMA.

What really hit home was when Aspinall compared his situation to Michael Chandler, who’s still waiting for Conor McGregor. But Aspinall’s not trying to wait for one man. He’s not here to chase ghosts. He’s ready to fight anybody : Ciryl Gane, Alexander Volkov again, Jailton Almeida, Derrick Lewis—hell, even Brock Lesnar if he wants in. The point is, Tom is here to put in the work, not wait around for someone who may never come back.

Meanwhile, Jon Jones remains vague about his future. He’s out there talking about peace, love, helping young fighters, and being more than just an athlete. And that’s all well and good, but from a competitive standpoint, it just sounds like someone who’s mentally moved on.

To top it off, fans are getting restless. Over 170,000 people have signed a petition calling for Jones to be stripped of the title, fed up with the lack of activity in the division. And while there’s a smaller counter-petition from die-hard Jones supporters, the energy is shifting. This isn’t just about one fight anymore—it’s about moving forward.

Tom Aspinall isn’t holding any grudges. He even wished Jon well: “God bless him… Full respect to him, wish him all the best in the future.” But make no mistake—he’s done waiting. He’s stepping into the spotlight as the champion, and he’s ready to put on a show.

So whether Jon ever comes back or not, the heavyweight division has a new leader. And his name is Tom Aspinall.
