Tragic Fall: Teen Dies After Unbuckling Harness Mid-Flight While Parasailing

I still can't stop thinking about the tragedy that unfolded in Montenegro just days ago. A young life lost in the most horrifying way — 19-year-old Tijana Radonjic, a student from Serbia, fell to her death while parasailing in Budva. It's one of those shocking moments that grabs you by the heart and makes you question how something so joyful can turn into a nightmare in seconds.

Tijana was on holiday, like any other young adult looking to unwind, have fun, and collect memories. What started as a spontaneous offer for a free parasailing ride — reportedly to help promote the local tourism company — ended in absolute heartbreak. Reports suggest she was invited to take the flight in exchange for some promotional video footage, showing her soaring above the beautiful Adriatic coastline in a bikini, all smiles.

But the video that eventually surfaced wasn’t the cheerful promotional clip. It became something horrifying. Footage showed Tijana visibly panicked mid-air, tugging desperately at her life jacket and struggling with her harness. Within moments, she unbuckled her safety belt, twisted in the harness, and tragically slipped out, plummeting over 160 feet into the sea. Eyewitnesses reported hearing her scream, “Put me down!” and “Help me!” — clear signs of intense panic, possibly a full-blown panic attack.

There’s still no official conclusion as to why she took those actions. Was it fear? A reaction to discomfort? Did she think something was malfunctioning? Authorities are investigating, and technical inspections of the equipment are ongoing. The company behind the flight insists she showed no signs of fear before takeoff and had even undergone brief training.

What’s truly devastating is how normal everything seemed just minutes before. Her family and friends described her as full of life, always laughing, deeply caring. She had been on holiday with her aunt, who later posted a heart-wrenching tribute, reminiscing about plans they had for that day — coffee, swimming, sunbathing — everyday joys that would never happen.

Her parents, too, are shattered. They said in their farewell: “We will never come to terms with this... Our bravest, we love you endlessly.” That line breaks me. You can feel their sorrow, their disbelief, the eternal weight of this loss.

For me, this isn’t just a tragic news story — it’s a stark reminder of how fragile life can be, and how adventure can sometimes turn without warning. It also brings up serious questions about safety in adventure tourism and how operators handle the mental and emotional readiness of participants, not just the physical logistics.

Tijana’s story is haunting, but her memory deserves more than just the shock factor of a headline. She was a daughter, a niece, a friend — someone full of promise. Let’s remember her with compassion, and maybe, let her story push for tighter safety protocols in these high-risk recreational activities. Because no family should ever have to go through something like this.
