Whether you're planning to spend the day soaking in the festivities or just want to know what’s open while you're out and about, here’s everything you need to know to make the most of July 1 in the city.
Let’s start with the fun stuff—Canada Day events! All across Toronto, neighborhoods are coming alive with parades, music, fireworks, and food. One of the biggest events is happening at Amesbury Park , running from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with vendors, entertainment, and fireworks. Over in Thomson Memorial Park , you can catch a pancake breakfast, parade, and kids' activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you’re in East York, Stan Wadlow Park is hosting a full day of fun, starting with a parade at 10:30 a.m. and wrapping up with fireworks at night.
Looking for a downtown vibe? Head to Mel Lastman Square or Nathan Phillips Square , both offering live music, family-friendly entertainment, and more. And if you're into cultural experiences, Harbourfront Centre is throwing an all-Canadian marketplace and fireworks show at 10:45 p.m., while Aga Khan Museum hosts day two of its Rhythms of Canada Summer Festival.
The big fireworks finale? Ashbridges Bay Park will once again light up the sky with a stunning 14-minute show. But if that’s too far, there are also displays at Milliken Park , Centennial Park , Mel Lastman Square , and a few others.

Now, for the practical stuff— what’s open ? The Eaton Centre is your go-to mall, open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Select T&T , Rabba , and Pusateri’s grocery stores, along with some Beer Store and Wine Rack locations, will also be operating. Cineplex theatres , the Toronto Zoo , CN Tower , Ripley's Aquarium , ROM , and other big attractions are all welcoming visitors. Even Casa Loma , Hockey Hall of Fame , and Centreville are open for family fun.
You can also visit historic sites like Fort York , Gibson House , and Scarborough Museum , which will be offering special free programming. And don’t forget, all outdoor pools , beaches , splash pads , and wading pools will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with public tennis and pickleball courts also available.
As for transit , the TTC will be running on a holiday schedule but adding extra service on subway lines and key streetcar routes, especially to help people get to and from fireworks shows. GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule, and ferries to the Toronto Islands will be available—just buy tickets online in advance.
And now the closures—most banks , government offices , LCBOs , and big grocery chains will be closed. That includes St. Lawrence Market , Yorkdale , Sherway Gardens , and Scarborough Town Centre , though some restaurants or movie theatres inside may stay open.
