FDA Issues Highest Risk Recall for Blueberries Over Listeria Fears
Hey everyone, I want to bring your attention to a serious food safety alert that just came down from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. If you’ve bought or consumed blueberries recently, especially organic ones, this is something you absolutely need to know.
On July 1st, the FDA officially issued a Class I recall for 12,000 pounds of organic blueberries produced by Alma Pak International , a company based in Atlanta, Georgia. Now, a Class I recall isn’t just your average warning—it’s the FDA’s most serious level of recall. That means there’s a reasonable probability that consuming the product could lead to serious health consequences or even death .

Here’s what triggered the recall: routine testing done at Alma Pak’s facility turned up positive results for listeria , a dangerous bacteria that can contaminate food. The recall originally began back on June 9, but it’s now been escalated due to the severity of the risk.
Let’s talk about listeria for a moment. Listeria is not something to take lightly. It’s a bacteria that causes listeriosis , an infection that primarily threatens older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and anyone with a weakened immune system . Symptoms can range from fever and muscle aches to headaches, confusion, and even convulsions. For pregnant women, the consequences can be devastating—causing miscarriages, stillbirths, or life-threatening infections in newborns.
In total, about 400 boxes , each weighing 30 pounds , were recalled. The affected blueberries were shipped to a single customer in North Carolina , but if there’s one thing we know about food distribution, it’s that ingredients and produce can travel fast and wide. The specific lot numbers under recall are 13325 G1060 and 13325 G1096 —if you’ve got blueberries at home, now’s the time to check those packages.
Even if you’re generally healthy, listeria can still make you very sick. But if you fall into one of those high-risk categories and experience flu-like symptoms after consuming blueberries or any suspect produce, don’t wait. Seek medical care immediately , and make sure to mention any food you’ve eaten that could be contaminated.
It’s also worth noting that Alma Pak International hasn’t responded to media inquiries yet. But with the FDA stepping in so firmly, it’s clear this is not a precautionary move—it’s a real and credible threat.
So bottom line: check your fridge, check those lot codes, and if in doubt, throw it out. Safety first. Stay informed, stay cautious, and make sure your loved ones know about this recall too.
