Isak Transfer Buzz Heats Up as Liverpool Circle and Newcastle Hold Firm
There’s been a lot of noise recently surrounding Newcastle’s star striker Alexander Isak—and it’s not just transfer window gossip anymore. Things are getting serious. The Swedish forward has made it known that he’s open to exploring a move away from St. James’ Park this summer, and while he hasn’t handed in a formal transfer request, the message has definitely been received loud and clear by the club.
Now, Liverpool have been at the center of this speculation. They’re long-time admirers of Isak and even made an informal approach recently. But before things could develop further, Liverpool swooped in for Hugo Ekitike instead, landing the young striker for £79 million. That seemed to cool the Isak situation for a bit, but not entirely. There’s still a belief that the Reds would love to get their hands on him—if they can somehow make the numbers work.
The twist? Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia are reportedly preparing a massive bid, said to exceed £130 million. And with Newcastle valuing Isak at around £150 million and insisting he’s not for sale, any deal is going to require serious money and likely a big decision from Isak himself.

Isak didn’t travel with Newcastle for their Asia pre-season tour, officially due to a minor thigh injury. But let’s be honest—speculation around his future clearly played a part. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted it was his decision to send the striker home before their 4–0 defeat to Celtic, citing the transfer rumors as a distraction that wasn’t fair to the player.
What’s more, Isak is reportedly feeling underpaid compared to other top Premier League strikers and is said to want wages more in line with his status. He’s got three years left on his deal, so Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position. But it’s clear he’s unsettled.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are already planning for a potential exit. They’ve been eyeing Benjamin Å eÅ¡ko as a replacement and are in talks with Brentford over Yoane Wissa, although Wissa was initially seen as a backup, not a direct replacement.
For fans, it’s a delicate situation. Isak is arguably one of the best strikers in the Premier League. Losing him—especially with Champions League football on the horizon—would be a blow. But if someone is willing to match Newcastle’s valuation, or if the club can't offer him a new deal that matches his ambitions, a summer switch could very well happen.
It’s now a waiting game. Either someone meets that massive price tag, Newcastle make a renewed contract offer, or Eddie Howe works his magic once again to get his star man refocused. Whatever happens next, it’s going to be a key storyline this window.
